It turns out to be very useful for all sorts of things. (We'll get to that...)
I originally had the x50 Thermal Eye, and the difference is staggering. Basically this unit is three times a sensitive, to the point that you can see clouds, airplains in the ski, people is wooded areas, etc.
Pros:
- Compact, very small
- Light weight
- Can be mounted to trip pod
- NTSC or PAL versions available
- Operates off of two AA batteries (Alkaline, Lithium, OR NiMH[!])
--Longest operation is off of Energizer AA Lithium batteries
Cons:
- Eye strain, it's very small internal screen leads to eye straing, similar to Night Vision Equipment
- It EATS Alkaline batteries (maybe 2 hours of use), so you really need to have a stash of NiMH (2400mAh type) or Lithium AA batteries
